I always enjoy the trips when Jimmy D. brings his son, Max (11), along on a fishing trip. The kid has a passion for fishing and it is awesome when we can get him on fish.
We went to a lake that I hadn’t ice fished in several years and to find safe ice we went to an unfamiliar area of the lake. My main goal was to target crappie and walleye using larger baits to keep the bluegills away. Well…my plan didn’t work.
With my plan aside, it is always great to get the youngsters out on the ice. I don’t even care if I catch much. Seeing the joy on kids faces when they catch fish is all I need sometimes.

I love to fish. Born and raised in Boone, Iowa, I had access to different bodies of water growing up. From lakes, rivers and farm ponds... I’ve fished them all.
The first fish I can remember catching was a carp on the Des Moines River at the Wagon Wheel Bridge. If I recall I was 4 years old and I thought that was the best thing ever...well it got me hooked and I’ve been fishing ever since.
Favorite Fish: Largemouth Bass, but I love to catch them all
Favorite Lure(s): Buzz Bait (Bass), Brush Hog (Bass), Jig/Twister (Walleye)
Favorite Lake: Don Williams Lake (Boone County) - I grew up fishing this lake and I always enjoy fishing it a few times a year. Maybe it is just a familiarity thing.
What does OGTH stand for?
When I first started ice fishing, I would often fish alone. This started at the adventures of One Guy Two Holes. When I started posting videos I didn’t feel this was “kid” appropriate, so I went with OGTH and it has stuck for several years.
I hope you enjoy the photos, posts and videos. I can’t wait to bring you along on my fishing adventures.
